Terminal 3
Our company has been involved in numerous projects at Frankfurt Airport since the year 2003. Our cooperation began when we carried out a space and functional programme as well as a development programme for Terminal 3. The goal of this project was to implement all relevant airport requirements while meeting the precondition of not exceeding an area 300.000m² (in the competition’s first phase, an area of 500.000m² had been stipulated). The programme was drawn up in close cooperation with all departments in order to ensure that the terminal was planned for 25 MAP by 2015 in accordance with the specified quality standards. Furthermore, it was crucial to ensure a transfer time of 45 minutes – an essential benchmark for hub airports like Frankfurt. In direct cooperation with the architectural office Foster+Partners and NACO, a floor plan system consisting of different building models for the available area was developed, which enabled a “build on demand” approach.

Programme Management
Fraport engaged the services of our programme management experts to advise the real estate and facilities management department on numerous projects. In the course of the airport expansion, a wide range of construction projects were implemented to increase capacity from 55 to around 85 MAP and to make the existing infrastructure fit for handling the Airbus A380. In addition to the expansion in the south with Terminal 3 and a new runway, the development also included massive investments in the northern area of the airport. To this end, Fraport initiated 9 programmes, which were managed and coordinated by our programme management team. In addition to maintaining an effective reporting system for the various parties, we monitored and controlled schedules and costs. Furthermore, we developed a number of tools to help anticipate capacity bottlenecks in ongoing operations at an early stage and to be able to take countermeasures in good time. In addition, we provided visualizations for operations procedures and construction progress, conducted risk analyses and improved communication strategies for the management.
